Ok, here is a comparison of two similar mascaras (they both claim to be lengthening & volumising)

Sana Pore Vacuumer Review

Sana Pore Vacuumer Hot Gommage (Hot gel) contains Morocco Volcanic Lava and Witch Hazel that heats up your skin and cleanses the pores and also tightens your pores too- so it claims!

I really like this product! It feels hot when in contact with water and it contains some exfoliating granules which means I get smooth skin as well:) It didn't really unclog my pores but it definitely smooths out all the rough skin and feels much cleaner afterwards. I prefer using this than squeezing the whiteheads out- very bad! Overall, it's a great product and I will definitely buy it again:)

As you can see, it is a thick grey cream- I apply a lot! Have to be careful not to apply too much as it gets really HOT instantly. I use it on my T-zone area although it says it's for the nose area :P Looks pretty gross doesn't it? In case you are wondering, I got this from Watsons in Singapore. Not available here in Australia so I will have to stock up next time I go to Singapore!

Foundations Review: Which is my pick?

These are some of my favourite bases in my makeup drawer at the moment. I rotate all of them around everyday depending on my mood or what coverage I need that day. I have no idea how I will finish all of them!

Laura Mercier Silk Creme Foundation

This is a great foundation with medium to full coverage. I wear this on days when my skin needs extra coverage. I don't usually need to apply concealer on top as the foundation itself is sufficient. It's a very creamy texture and doesn't feel heavy and cakey. I really like the formula and the colour suits my yellow based skin tone. I also tried a sample size of the Diorskin Nude foundation which is similar to this but I definitely prefer Laura Mercier!

Giorgio Armani Luminous Silk Foundation

I bought this based on rave reviews by many people on blogs and on youtube...yes I got sucked in! I had to buy it and try it for myself. It is very light and gives a nice dewy finish. I think the colour I got was too pale for me so I probably save it for winter. Other than that I think it's a very good foundation. If you like the Bobbi Brown Skin Foundation- this is something you might want to try. Personally, I think Luminous Silk is better than BBrown because I like the extra covergae. Skin foundation was a bit sheerer which means it's only good for people with naturally good skin :( not me!  I haven't really found a good BBrown foundation yet.

Korres Wild Rose Foundation

Korres Wild Rose foundation is great for people with normal to dry skin....I have oily combination skin so this was a bit problematic for me later on in the day- I found the foundation starts to slide a bit around my nose and mouth (where there is a lot fo movement and oily areas!). However, on application I thought it was really easy to blend- but need to blend quickly before the foundation sets. I didn't need to powder after applying and it gives a nice satin finish. It contains natural ingredients that are good for your skin too!

Missha Perfect Cover BB Cream

Missha's BB Cream is the first BB Cream that I tried and it's still one of my favourites- but it only comes in two colours light and medium and they are both quite fair. So I wouldn't recommend it to people who have slightly tanned or dark skin. It might make you look ashy and grey. For me, it was a really good foundation as it gives good coverage, blends very nicely, long lasting and it supposed to be good for your skin too. I set it with my Laura Mercier Mineral Powder for a really flawless look. I didn't notice any effects on my skin- it's just a good foundation! Very cheap to buy too:)

Laura Mercier Oil-Free Tinted Moisturiser

For the days where I can't be bothered with heavy makeup- I use my Laura Mercier Tinted Moisturiser. It's so easy to apply and evens out my skin tone. It gives a very natural finish- barely there makeup look. Great formula and I also set it with my Mineral Powder to make it last longer. This is not something I would use on days when you need a bit of coverage- its doesn't last all day. A few hours and your face will need a touch up otherwise you look like you're glowing- and not in a good way! Good for lazy days:)

Laura Mercier Hydrating Liquid Foundation (Oil-Free)

I buy alot of Laura Mercier bases! I think her bases are one of the best so far:) This is the hydrating oil free liquid foundation which I bought specifically for my wedding day- it's still my choice for now. Similar to Korres Wild Rose Foundation where is gives a satin finish but it lasts longer on my skin. No sliding around like the Korres Wild Rose and the colour matches me perrrrfecctly! It's got no spf so it's good for photography. I also set this with my LM Mineral Powder so it gives a really flawless face. Comparable with Giorgio Armani Luminous Silk but LM gives a bit more coverage.

Laura Mercier Mineral Powder

I have to say something about this powder! It's one of my favourites! I use it practically everyday. I also use the MUFE High Definition Powder. LM Mineral Powder is great when you apply on top of your liquid foundation- it makes you pores smaller and smooths out your base and looks really natural. You can also use it on its own. The coverage depends on what brush you use to apply it. I use a Kabuki brush to buff it into my skin and it gives more coverage. If you want a lighter touch you can try using  a normal powder brush.

Which is my pick?

I have to say- Laura Mercier Hydrating Oil Free foundation!

I would like to know what you guys think. I still have to try out Nars Sheer Glow/ Matte Foundation? I heard great reviews on that so hopefully I can get it soon. I will do a review on it when I do:)

Origins "A Perfect World" Body Cream

A friend gave this as a gift- and I really love it! So does my fiance! Usually he hates any type of body cream smell. Even my hand cream smells funny to him....so hard to please. Finally I road test the Origin's Body Cream (A Perfect World- with white tea) and he actually likes the smell. So I am extremely happy that I can finally moisturise my body without offending his nose:)

It's not only my fiance that hates scented creams....all the guys at work all hate my hand cream that I use at work. (Mecca Cosmetica's Hand Glove Cream On-The-Go) They all run away from me when I apply it on! hahah It's not really a great scent but I guess it smells a bit unusual. Oh well. It cost me $40 so I'm going to use it but I won't be buying it again- even though it is a great hand cream!

Back on topic, the Origin's Body cream is quite a thick consistency but not at all greasy. It's super rich and can be used anywhere on your body. I use it as a hand cream too. The smell isn't overpowering and smells divine.....like tea! ahahha I love my teas so I don't mind it:)

Here is a pic of the guy I am planning to marry....Mr. Funkiimonkee! The lil girl is going..."Why?!!! Are you sure??!!"

Acutally these two lil girls are going to be my flower girls. My fiance's two nieces:) Aren't they cute?

Bobbi Brown Concealer Kit Vs. Laura Mercier Undercover Pot

Let's begin with the Bobbi Brown Concealer Kit.

I love this formula- it's super creamy and very easy to blend. Which means you don't stretch and drag the skin as much (especially the delicate skin around your eyes!) The colour has a yellow undertone which is great for asian skins like me! It is used in conjunction with a corrector (below) and I got mine in Peach. This is used as a base for underneath your eyes and then apply the concealer on top. Then you powder it to finish! Dark circles are gone! :)

This product comes in two parts- you can choose to buy only the concealer but it is highly recommended to get the corrector too. It does make a difference! The packaging is very similar to LM Undercover Pot...so cute!

Now onto LM Undercover Pot......

This product has everything in one lil pot! Which is great for travelling:) A must have for your handbag!
One side is the "Secret Camouflage" which is used for blemishes and scars etc. and is a thicker concealer (Very similar to MAC Studio Fix Concealer pot). The other side is a emolient formula for the area around the eyes. And if you twist the pot, you will find the powder underneath! Super convenient!

Verdict: I love both products! It's very hard to choose- but if I really had to pick one...I think BBrown Concealer wins! The corrector and concealer combo is HG stuff- doesn't look cakey and the colour is perfect for me. The formula is sooooo creamy and I personally prefer this than the thicker & hard concealers. If only it came in an all-in-one package like the LM Undercover Pot- then it would definitely win!

Would love to know what everyone thinks about these concealers!

My Fave Mascara...

Wah! Looks mighty scary and clumpy looking but I think the brush is the secret weapon here!

I have tried so many mascaras in the last few months and this is my favourite one so far and I haven't really found another that I like just as much! I have tried the Dior Show Blackout which comes pretty close but I think MUFE Smoky Lash is the ONE! It gives such a dramatic black colour and makes my lashes really thick and long. I know for some people they say it can be clumpy but I myself didn't find this a problem- in fact it gives me volume -thicker looking lashes without the need to put fake lashes on. As for the curl factor- it stays curled all day long. You know how some mascaras end up looking (and feeling) hard and stiff- this one doesn't at all. I sometimes find myself stroking mine during the day since it feels so soft and fluttery! haha Yeah I know, I am a weirdo! Sad fact is- MUFE isn't readily available in my city so I have to get it online. :(((

Volume? Tick. Lengthening? Tick. Intense Colour? Tick. Curl? Tick.

Tick Tick Tick!

I really like it!

I have read some mixed reviews on this product but seriously- its the best for me and the only way to know is to try one yourself! Let me know if you do:)

Review: Korres Wild Rose Foundation

Yay! I get to use my new Korres Wild Rose foundation today before I head out for work. I am still suffering from bruises all over my body and a huge blister on my feet kept awake all night! But I woke up this morning with a smile because I got something new to try :P

I use the colour in WRF2 and I started by applying with my stippling brush but its very difficult to apply since this foundation dries very quickly. So I changed and used my fingers instead. The liquid was easy to blend with fingers and the finish was really smooth, matte and not cakey! Which is what I wanted! This product goes well on its own and I didn't even need to powder my face which I usually do with my BB creams. So this is great! I love it so far and now I just have to see if it makes me break out! I hope not :( Just make sure you blend really well as it will leave tell tale streaks especially around the jawline and around the nose.

Have a great day everyone! I have to catch the train to work now- I'll go earlier today since I will hobbling along to the train on my blistered feet!

Imju Fiberwig Mascara Review

I've been trying the Imju Fiberwig Mascara for a couple of days. It gives amazing length and gives you pretty, natural lashes. You need to concentrate on applying it to the ends and keep going and going to build length. I know gorgeous Eki is a fan of this mascara and it looks great on her! She uses an electronic eyelash curler as well and it gives a very pretty natural result.

I don't use eyelash curlers in my usual daily makeup routine. I am too lazy and I only have 15 mins to get ready most the time. So I save that for special occasions- eyelash curlers do make a big difference to your eyes! The instructions says you need to use an eyelash curler after you apply the mascara. I don't like to do that since it stains my rubber pads on my curlers and sometimes my eyelashes fall off! So I didn't try this method but the result is still very good.

The only gripe I have (and it makes me very sad) is that the fibers in the mascara falls into my eyes and irritates my eyes all day! I blink constantly-sometimes guys think I am batting my eyes at them. :/

Anyway, besides the itchy, "feel like something on my eyeballs" feeling- this is a great mascara. If this doesn't happen for you then you are lucky!

PROS:
  • Builds unbelievable length
  • The finish is really glossy, no flakes or clumps whatsoever and it lasts alllll day!
  • It's one of those mascaras that looks natural and not stiff. If you touch it, it feels soft and doesn't flake.
  • Another bonus is that you don't any eye makeup remover to take it off- just warm water and a little bit of rubbing. Say goodbye to panda eyes!
  • It's really affordable. I bought mine for $17.50 singaporean dollars at a Watsons store in Singapore.

CONS

  • Fibers fall into my eyes and makes them irritable, makes me blink like a mad woman I feel like I wanna scratch my eyes!
  • Not much volume but I guess you can't have everything!

Mascara Showdown: Found a New Fave!

Left to Right: Rimmel Glam Eyes & My New Favourite!

I love my Rimmel Glam Eyes- I bought three of them but since my mascara experiment that I started last week- I have found another mascara love. It's the pic to the right! It gives me really full and clump free lashes and I only need two coats to get va-va-voom eyes!

I tried many drugstore mascaras and I believe they do just as well (sometimes better) than the high end mascaras. I change mine every month or so because I hate clumpy, flaky mascaras. It's also for hygiene reasons- you wipe the stuff onto your eyelashes and then you pop it back into the tube so there is bound to be bacteria growth etc! Ewww!

Anyway here is a rundown of my tried & tested:

Maybelline Great Lash- bleh! I don't know why this is a must have? Its alright- but not fantastic. Its easy to remove but it smudges at the end of the day. There are way better products out there nowadays!
5/10

Maybelline XXL curling mascara- I don't really like mascaras that need an application of primer before you apply the mascara on. Its another step and I am lazy! This one was another ok mascara- nothing special.
6/10

Maybelline Colossal- Great product but it had a funny rose scent to it which I didn't like. If you don't mind the smell then this is a great mascara! It's better than Covergirl's Lash Blast:)
8/10

Loreal Telescopic- I bought this before and I never liked it enough. So when I saw people rave about it I thought I'll give it another go. It separates your lashes quite well and gives some length but NO volume. The wand is the same as Rimmel Glam Eyes which I prefer because it gives you length, separation AND volume.
7/10

Bourjois Clubbing Mascara- As soon I took the wand out of the tube it was yuk! Mascara product was clumping the the fibers on the wand. I had to wipe it with tissue before applying. It smudges and didn't really give length or volume compared to other mascaras.
4/10

Max Factor 2000 Calorie- This my new HG mascara:) I love the effect it gives! You can see in the pics that the Max Factor gives more oommpph! I love love love it! Highly recommended!

10/10

Here is video by misschievous and she goes through many other mascaras that I haven't tried as yet. So watch it for more reviews!

BB Creams

Left: Top-Missha Bottom- Skin Food

Right: Shiny Pearl Beblesh Balm

As you know, I love my Missha Perfect Cover BB Cream so I decided to try out some other ones. I bought the SkinFood and also the Shiny Pearl Water Drop BB Cream on ebay from Ruby Ruby Shop. They give you freebies all the time! This is where I get my Missha BB cream too. Missha BB Cream is very blendable and coverage is medium.

I have only tried these three types so it's not a great comparison but here is my views on it anyway:

Skin Food Gingko Green BB Cream- This is very similar to Missha BB Cream.. The texture is the same but the colour is better on me than missha's. However, I have to put more product on to get enough cover so I think being a small bottle, I will use it up pretty quick!

Shiny Pearl Water Drop Beblesh Balm- Did not like this one at all! It's very watery and it seems to sink right into the skin and gave me no coverage whatsoever. Plus, it gives a glittery- not shimmery sheen to my face which I did not like. Good- if you want to look like a Fairy Godmother! Would not recommend.

Verdict: After trying these two compared to my beloved Missha BB Cream, I will still continue to use my Missha. Skin Food is great but its not going to beat Missha in terms of cost since I will end up using more product.

I would love to get my hands on L'egere BB Cream & Liole BB Cream. If you have tried any of these please let me know what you think!

Review: Neutrogena 2in1 Mask/Cleanser

I keep hearing about this product in reviews and was pretty excited about trying it out. I looked everywhere for this and finally stumbled upon it at the local Woolies store in town while looking for toothpaste. Anyway I have used this a couple of times now. Once in the morning to clean my face and once as a mask.

As a cleanser, the packaging says to put some on your hands then mix with water and it should lather up into a foam but this didn't happen for me. Maybe I used too much water? The product was a bit watery so it dripped a bit- something like a paint consistency so it can get messy. I felt a cooling tingling sensation on my skin which was pleasant- for some it might be stinging depends on how sensative your skin is. After I rinsed my skin, it felt a bit tight for me. It was definitely clean- no oil or grease but I prefer a more moisturising cleanser. This product is more suited to people who have oily skin.

As a mask, I put on a layer onto my skin and its very similar to a clay mask. Great for summer when your skin tends to get greasy and clogged. I read somewhere that you can dab this onto your blemishes overnight to reduce swelling and redness. Will be trying that next:)

Review: Face Primers

The main purpose of putting on a foundation primer is:

  • to prep skin for application of foundation. It does this by creating a smooth canvas to work on - filling in wrinkles and smoothing out fine lines.
  • It also diminishes the look of enlarged pores but covering and filling in uneven skin texture.
  • Another good thing is it reduces shine on oily skins and can sometimes even out skin tone. For drier skins, it helps to keep it hydrated throughout the day.
  • Primers also helps to keep your makeup stay on your skin longer with less need for touch ups.
  • Finally, you will end up using less makeup because instead of your foundation absorbing right into your skin, the primer acts like a base for your foundation to adhere to.
I use a makeup primer everyday and it really makes a huge difference from beginning to end. I highly recommend it for long days when you don't have time for touching up or reapplying your makeup. Here are three of my primers that I have been using for while now and in my opinion, they are all good products. But it might work differently on your skin. You just need to find one that works just for you:)
For all the makeup looks I used:
  • Missha Perfect Cover BB Cream #23
  • MAC Moisturecover Concealer
  • Laura Mercier Mineral Powder

Pictures were taken at 7am, 10am and 3pm for photos 1,2 & 3 respectively.

DAY 1
Philosophy Never Let Them See You Shine

This product is for oily, blemish prone skin (me!) and claims to give a velvety, matte finish. The makeup went on smooth with no problems with application. Its like a gel and dries up instantly on your skin and ready for foundation straight away! Looked great in the morning and at 10am it was still not oily or cakey. However I think the shiny nose effect was starting to come through at 2pm onwards. (photo 3) Overall it was a good product and reduced shine for up to 6 hours and the makeup stayed on all day with a bit of shine at the end of the day.

Day 2
Nars Makeup Primer

My favourite primer ever! This product is very light, fast absorbing and soothes the skin so its great if you have red, inflamed areas. My makeup looked even and flawless without the caking but it doesn't cut out shine completely (I don't know if any primer can help my oily t-zone!) but it certainly does help your makeup stay on long. I like using this when I have bad breakouts and it works wonders on flaky bits on the skin so your makeup looks smooth.

Day 3
Laura Mercier Foundation Primer

I think this primer was the least favourite out of the three. It is a great base for makeup and it creates a flawless finish but the makeup didn't look fresh after only 3 hours! By 10am I was already an oil slick and by 3pm I looked like I ran a marathon. Given the money I paid for this product I would assume it would work better than the other three. Overall it was a basic primer with no surprising magical results. I wouldn't repurchase this product in the future.

I hope this review will help you find your perfect primer! If you have any recommendations I would love to hear it! Have a great weekend:)
